Residential building and retaining wall starting to slide down the side of the mountain.
Stabilize earth at the toe of the retaining wall and anchor building to the side of the mountain.
The original design for the newly applied loads to the side of the mountain required the construction of a retaining wall to provide stabilization of the hillside and support for the building. The vertical and lateral loads applied to the side of the mountain were slowly overcoming the internal shear resistance of the soil.
To stop the movement two steps needed to be accomplished. The toe of the retaining wall needed to be re-compacted and the building needed to be anchored to the hillside with needle piles.
